The spring of a rolled hog bristle was once used as a balance in the first pocket-watch of the world. Boar hunters report of resin-sticking boar flanks which resisted rifle bullets.

Power and elasticity are not only features of hog bristles. Also the tail hairs of the red sable, the black sable, the squirrel, the fur of the badger and the ear hairs of the ox show specific characteristics such as high colour absorbing capacity and fine tips allowing us to produce a selected brush program. And since the middle of the last century synthetic fibres of high quality have been developed especially for acrylic colours and impasto techniques and are also appreciated for special oilpainting tasks.
